The 11th European Association of Avian Veterinarians Conference will take place in Madrid, Spain from 27th to 30th April 2011.


General requirements


Proposals on all aspects of Avian Medicine are welcome. These include results of original research, case reports, clinical studies, review articles and manuscripts on any of the listed categories:


  • Behaviour
  • Welfare
  • Epidemiology
  • Wildlife and Conservation
  • Nutrition
  • Pharmacokinetics and therapeutics
  • Diagnostics
  • Infectious diseases
  • Anaesthesia and Surgery
  • Pathology
  • Captive management
  • Others


Only submissions using the online proposal submission form will be considered.


This time Proposals for Practical Laboratories and Master Classes will not be considered, as these sessions will be via invitation by Organizing Committee directly.


If you wish to submit an abstract for consideration for an oral presentation or a poster please do so according to the following instructions:


  • Only submissions using the online proposal submission form will be considered.
  • All abstracts must be in British English.
  • All abstracts must be no longer than 1250 characters (the on-line form will not accept abstracts longer than 1250 characters).
  • First author’s name must be mentioned, as well as contact e-mail address.
  • All other author’s names must be mentioned.
  • No anonymous proposals will be accepted.


If your proposal concerns a funded research study please mention the source of funding, if any.


Review method


Proposal submissions will be subjected to a blinded review scheme and scored for merit and value on a point based system.


Student presentations are encouraged and a Prize for the Best Student Presentation will be awarded at the Conference.


Time schedule


Applications must be filled in no later than 31st of August 2010. Applicants will be notified of the selections by e-mail no later than 30th of September 2010.


Authors will have time until 30th October 2010 to make any changes as required by the Scientific Committee and to submit their selected manuscripts. Authors who do not respect the deadline or the guidelines are aware that their applications will be removed from the selection.

All details concerning submissions will be sent with the confirmation e-mail and available by June 2010 on the website www.eaavmadrid2011.es (see Instructions for authors).


Authors who do not submit their manuscripts on the time requested will be replaced.


Summary style papers


Summary style manuscripts will be allowed. These are to allow results to be published in the proceedings yet not precluding subsequent publication in peer reviewed journals.


Summary style manuscripts are extended abstracts and must include a brief introduction and why the study was performed and focussed on. Materials and Methods must be briefly mentioned but need not be explained and a summary of the most important results must be included, followed by a brief discussion.
Failure to provide results will result in the paper not being accepted.


Speaker’s remuneration


First authors whose abstracts are selected for Oral Presentations will receive free registration to the Main Conference of the EAAV Madrid 2011 and a copy of the proceedings.


First authors of Poster Presentations will receive 50% discount on the Main Conference registration fee of the EAAV Madrid 2011 and a copy of the proceedings.


Presenters of Practical Laboratories and Master Classes will receive free registration to the Main Conference of the EAAV Madrid 2011, a copy of the proceedings and will be provided with one free night hotel accommodation.


Additional registration fees for the Social Programme, Practical Laboratories, Master Classes are still due for all participants.


No additional honorariums will be paid.
